Hearing aid compatible

Hearing aid compatibility (HAC) means that a device emits enough electromagnetic signal to be picked up and amplified by a T-coil equipped hearing aid.  This allows the user to hear the audio output of the product without using the microphone setting on the hearing aid.  Many kinds of telephones are required to be hearing aid compatible; use this HAC Guideline link for more information on these requirements.

Hearing aid compatibility addresses:

1193.43(i) Hearing aid coupling.

There are no Product Types that generically include hearing aid compatibility.  However, wireline and cordless telephones sold in the United States must be hearing aid compatible after January 1, 2000.
